 | In May of 1886, in a one room schoolhouse, the Barker Disctrict Sunday School was organized and for twenty seven years ministers of various denominations took part in the services. In 1913 the need for a larger building led to the organization of the Forest Street Union Church as a community church. The building was built of field stone given by the owners of nearby farms. Those who owned teams of horses hauled the stone to the site and those with carpentry skills contributed their expertise. The church was officially organized on June 11, 1913. It is interesting to note that the church does not own the land on which it stands. It was offered for use as long as it was being used for a church. | | Today Forest Street Union Church is a place you can feel at home, be yourself and know that you are truly welcome. We are a community which tends to be informal and where worship is celebrative. We are an embracing church welcoming all and celebrating diversity. We tend to be practical, focusing on how faith applies to the reality of daily living. |
